SATURDAY CAREER WORKSHOPS
Every semester since 1997, ADC along with the School Art League and New York Board of Education offers a series of Saturday Career Workshops to 50 talented high school juniors from all five boroughs of New York City.
Each week, a leading professional discusses his or her career and background and oversees a creative project that allows the students to apply their skills in new ways. These projects help them build competitive portfolios for art school applications. For the first time this Fall, SCW will be a component of the Design Ignites Change initiative, Create! Don’t Hate, in which high school students and their design mentors create powerful projects that address the theme of tolerance in a variety of compelling and thought-provoking ways. This program inspires and encourages the students to pursue careers in creative fields. Our workshop leaders are excellent role models who share their experiences, explain the creative process and guide students as they work on their own projects. The quality of the work they produce is truly extraordinary. This semester workshops will be led by: Elisa Halperin and Karen Cohn Lucie Kim Fernanda Cohen Jason Lancaster Alex Suh and Boyoung Lee Check this past Fall's photos! Previous workshops have been led by Gail Anderson, Frank Anselmo & Jayson Atienza, Marshall Arisman, Nicholas Blechman, Mirko Ilic, Stephen Kroninger, Diana LaGuardia, Christoph Niemann, and Bill Oberlander, among others. If you are interested in leading a workshop or want to volunteer please contact Flora, ADC Education Coordinator. Saturday Career Workshops are made possible by a grant from the Richard and Jean Coyne Family Foundation. |
