In 1996, the ADC Young Guns® competition was established to honor young, talented and visionary creatives for their work and potential to impact the future of this multi-disciplinary visual communications industry. In its quest to identify the vanguard of young professionals across all fields of visual media and design, ADC Young Guns has evolved into more than a competition—it now comprises a community network of rebels and prodigies, unsung heroes and rising stars.
Over the years, our roster has grown to include six classes of exceptional talent, among them Stefan Sagmeister (YG1), Rei Inamoto (YG4), James Victore (YG1), Ryan McGinness (YG2), floto+warner (YG5), Alex Trochut (YG6), Alexander Gelman (YG1), Deanne Cheuk (YG4), Todd St. John (YG1), Scott Stowell (YG3), and Mike Mills (YG1).
Submissions are accepted every spring, with a launch party to mark the opening of the call for entries (ADC Young Guns 7 kicked off with a ping-pong competition, mid-March 2009). During the summer, past ADC Young Guns jury the work and choose 50 creatives to join their ranks. Winning work is honored in an exhibition at the ADC Gallery in the fall and in a limited edition book published by Moleskine®. At the opening party for the exhibition, winners claim the iconic ADC Young Guns Cube, and receive various benefits from the program's sponsors, in addition to a one-year ADC membership.
Throughout the year, select ADC Young Guns are invited to participate at speaker events at the ADC Gallery, and at the Apple Store in SoHo, where an ongoing speaker series is held.
The competition remains open to professionals age 30 or under who have at least two years of work experience. Proceeds fund ADC programs and scholarships.
